Illustrating spiritual dialogue

Kehilla Community Synagogue sought a design concept for an interfaith conversation between two leaders of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish and Buddhist communities about the legacies of the Buddha and the Ba’al Shem Tov.

Kehilla Community Synagogue design

Airloom developed a design solution that placed the founder of Hasidic Judaism and the founder of Buddhism in visual dialogue with each other. The Buddha and Ba’al Shem Tov sit facing each other, anchoring a composition that combines symmetry and asymmetry, expressing a contrast of their visionary and contemplative approaches to enlightenment, and incorporating an ancient and modern aesthetic. We incorporated one of Kehilla’s Brand colors (a yellow ochre) to cover both figures in a warm glow, suggesting illumination.

This concept was used on posters, postcards, and flyers promoting the event.
